Now in the web ...
In the future the ESPERE newsletters will be also published in the Web. You will find links on the main page, in the members area and in the 'partners' section. The idea is on the one hand to be able to look up the contents of former newsletters without contacting the still existing YAHOO mailbox.
Moreover this service allows to remove the senior scientists from the mailing list who do not want to be frequently posted about the current state of ESPERE. You will have the opportunity to look up the current state and to inform yourself about news in the newsletter section whenever you want. The frequency of the newsletters will also depend on the progress of the project and the necessity to inform you about important news or changes. Normally the newsletter will appear every two weeks.
The next edition is envisioned for Thu, 23/08/2001
Who has access?
As already foreseen the growth of the project ESPERE will make necessary an improved administration. At present several of our members care or will care about national pages and have access to the ESPERE server. You will find a list of responsibilities and people who are able to upload files in the section 'partners' linked to the main page.
MA-form downloadable
The membership agreement acts as a sign of our personal commitment. In addition to the supporter form, which will be sent to you as Word-document or txt-file and which contains your personal data (e.g. field of research, net experience, etc.) the membership agreement is a signed document of self-commitment to the project. You express that you are ready to invest about two hours per month to work on the ESPERE page. We ask you to download the form and to submit the signed agreement via FAX to Elmar Uherek / MPI Mainz. You will find the address on the form.
After that your name will be added to the list of regular members. This list should replace the former list of supporters and will show our partners that they cooperate with people and not with an anonymous idea.
We thank our member Martin Johnson (Univ. East Anglia) for providing the PDF version.
New list for the United States
Thanks to Stephen Gawtry (Univ. of Virginia) an US welcome page and a remarkable basic version of an US link list is available now on the ESPERE server. It will give you an overview of important American institutions.
Cooperation in Germany
The cooperation with the German school-service teachers-online (Lehrer-online) has been started. The providers of the platform have been so kind to offer at lo-net a platform for communication - a so called group room 'climate change' for the organisation of an exchange with schools in Germany. Teachers and members of ESPERE can register in this group room, use virtual tools as a forum, a chatroom, a mailing service, etc. for this purpose.
In order to see the structure of the platform: click here
The project ESPERE has been announced in the geography section of teachers-online and will be announced at 15/08 in the online magazine of the service.
The German members are at present giving an overview and a short summary of the fields which could be covered on the ESPERE pages and in the cooperation with schools in the topic section (in German) of the German school area. This overview should be provided in English as soon as possible to act as pattern for international efforts.

update available
Although there are still some 'open workpackages' and some open questions - a general update of the workpackage area has been made (and will likely be complemented after the holidays of Michael Gauss). Please have a look on the list. Significant extensions are also expected during the next two weeks with respect to the English version of the 'thematic field' overview for the schools.
A legal basis is needed ...
In order to find a legal basis for a material delivery agreement with diverse institutes our member Heleen de Coninck (MPI Mainz) contacted the general administration of the Max Planck Society. The colleagues in Munich were so kind to give advice concerning the shape of such a contract which should be similar to the contracts with publishing houses. For details we most likely can get help from the jurists of the Max Planck Society.
