Ozone Project

After the pilot project water (the project pages are stepwise complemented by experiments and fotos from the use in parctise now), ESPERE is going to accompany a larger ozone project during the next months.

The national German school server Lehrer-online and the Institute for Didactics in Chemistry are leading partners in this project, which is envisioned to explain the role of ozone in both the stratosphere and the troposphere to pupils of different grades in three levels.
For further information please visit the 'Ozone project Welcome page', which is also linked to the ESPERE main page now.

Open Forum

The OPEN FORUM during the netdays Europe and the Evora conference saw the strongest feedback in Norway due to the commitment of CICERO. We thank the directors of CICERO and the colleagues from the outreach department, who answered to a lot of questions. The very active participation of Norwegian guests who did not always agree with the opinion of the answering scientists and who critisized also the work of the IPCC caused some problems during the debate and rises the question how to deal with the various opinions and the point of view of sceptics on the ESPERE pages. To decide about this point will be a challenge for the future steering committee.
The contritbutions to the FORUM should be made available on a separate page at least in English during the next weeks.

OUTLOOK and EVALUATION

We have to think if smaller projects like a series of pages on ENSO/NOA and also the solar cycle can be realised during the next months. In order to be prepared for the next proposal an enhancement of contacts to the national educational systems is necessary.

Several points have been critisized in the water project:
The texts provided so far are regarded as a good text book in the net.
But: The project was not yet devided into several levels and the required knowledge varies from one text to the next.
Webdesign does not use all means which could be used to make the pages more attractive.
An evaluation of the project by Lehrer-online will be published in the next newsletter. Generally the outcome emphasizes the criticism of the EU evaluators. Professional webdesigners and didactic support are still required.

The last newsletter of this year will appear in about two weeks.
