Election of a Steering Committee

Eight members of the community have nominated candidates for the preliminary steering committee. Taking into account all recommendations, there is a clear voting that 7 persons should be member of the steering committee.
The proposals have been: 5-6, 5-6, 5-7, 7, 7, 9, 9, >9
This means: Everybody, who votes for the steering committee should choose 7 names from the list of candidates. If you choose more than 7 names, the voting is not valid! You may choose less. But if you have confidence in the candidates, please choose the maximum number of 7 candidates and exclude only those, that you would not like to see as member of the steering committee. The elected members should be supported by at least 50% of the voters.

The persons, who are ready to candidate and who already submitted their introduction are introduced HERE.
The election begins november the 20th. The voting code should have been sent to the members and advisors, who are entitled to vote. Detailed information about the election procedure is available in the election section of the ESPERE news.

OPEN FORUM

From today on, november 15th, the OPEN ESPERE FORUM is offered to pupils, teachers and the public during the Evora climate conference and the netdays Europe. They are invited to ask questions which will be answered by members of ESPERE and the outreach department of CICERO who kindly joined this effort.
We hope to be able to answer to many questions about climate change and the climate system. The sorted questions and answers will remain on the ESPERE page for everybody who is interested.
If you have possiblities to inform about the availability of the OPEN FORUM in your country, please spread this information.
Many thanks to the people who made possible that we can provide this service in eight languages. Many thanks also to Stephen Gawtry, who helped a lot that we can offer during the netdays Europe two of the three sections of the pilot project 'water' in a revised English version.

Presentation of ESPERE

ESPERE has been/ is presented meanswhile in several ways. We thank Heleen De Coninck for a Poster Presentation during the 'Open University' in the Netherlands, Thierry Elias for the presentation in Evora/Portugal, Michael Gauss for a Poster Presentation at Bergen/Norway and Xiaobin Xu for making contacts in China which lead to an article in the newsletter of the CESDRRC (China Environment and Sustainable Development Reference and Resource Center).

Many people and organisations are interested to be posted about the progress and projects of ESPERE and in a future co-operation. The administrators have to apologize, that some administrative work can be done only slowly, because we are still working on a voluntary basis. However the extending network and increasing contacts should be a good basis for further funding.

OUTLOOK

Further plans and an outlook including suggestions for the next 6 months will be presented in the next newsletter (29/11/2001) after the netdays Europe. Currently discussed are a larger ozone project, and smaller projects ENSO/NOA and solar cycle. An extension of the water project is envisioned.
