Election of a Steering Committee
|
Up to now only few nominations have been made for a steering committee. We remind you to give your opinion, even if you do not know many of the members. The activity in the web may give you an rough idea about the commitment and moreover candidates will introduce themselves before the election takes place.
We thank Dr. Nicolai Lehnert from the University of Kiel for his readiness to act as campaign worker during the election. The anonymous election is planned in the following way.
A specific code of ten characters will be sent personnaly to everybody by Dr. Lehnert
e.g.: 23hj9 o6tze
You enter a public mailbox (name and password are sent with the code) and you send your code (not your name) and the list of the candidates, you elect for the steering committee (at least 1, but not more than the maximum number for the steering committee) to another mailbox (name sent with the code - password secret).
The nomination is possible up to the 01/11, the candidates will be asked to introduce themselves after the 01/11. The election is going to take place from 20/11 to the 15/12.
Candidates should be choosen either from the list of regular members or from the scientific advisory board.
Please send the list of candidates to Elmar Uherek (uherek@espere.net) not later than the 01/11/01.
The next call for proposals within the Raising Public Awareness programme will be in january 2002. If we plan to apply for financial support again, we have to care as soon as possible about the contacts to the key organisations of the educational systems in the respective countries. The netdays Europe may be helpful to come into touch with schools or institutions in several countries. But you should make a list, who is working on this field in your country and contact the institutions.

Evora Meeting
Netdays Europe
|
Thierry Elias brought in the proposal to organise an interactive event for the public during the Kyoto conference in Evora (see discussion B in the moderated FORUM). You may give your opinion in our FORUM. Please write to Thierry, if you are ready, to care for the planned FORUM now and then.
In order to make possible more democracy and a higher diversity of opinions on ESPERE, a moderated FORUM is available now and is already used. There are several interesting questions and contributions waiting for your opinion.

List of educational programmes
|
As mentioned several times by various people during the recent discussion and meetings, the installation of a List of educational programmes on a national and international scales is highly recommended.
If you know about such programmes like e.g. GLOBE, Agenda 21, netdays, etc. and organisations providing such programmes, please send the link to the respective homepage with an appropriate remark (e.g. educational programme France) either to our link list or to your administrator.

Co-operation with Lehrer-online
|
During a nearly whole day's meeting of Peter Welskop, project leader of the national German school-server Lehrer-online (teachers-online), and Elmar Uherek in Mainz the frame for a close co-operation of the server with ESPERE has been planned.
Lehrer-online is going to support ESPERE actively. This co-operation could not only become a model for other countries, also concrete material will be produced and can be translated. Further informations about Lehrer-online: click here
Basing on a discussion with Prof. Tausch, educationist at the University of Duisburg (Education in Chemistry), the following preliminary concept for the 'school branch' of ESPERE is put up for discussion. Please visit the presentation:
Prof. Tausch is going to co-operate with ESPERE and will help out in order to develop a teaching concept suggested for ESPERE in a future application for funding.
A three level system has also been suggested by the round table at Hamburg. Further ideas and critisicm from this discussion will be included in the next newsletter.

CICERO as partner of ESPERE
|
The directors of the Norwegian Center for International Climate and Environmental Research - Oslo (CICERO) decided to co-operate with ESPERE. CICERO is currently applying for funding for an interactive climate model explaining the possible consequences of political decisions (causing different scenarios) for the future climate. The project should be realised together with the server for environmental education in schools "Nettverk for miljølære".
