New members

No new members this week. Instead we welcome several contact persons in the educational field.

The following board <<http://www.espere.net/sqedu.html>> (still under construction) contains a list of persons, working for national school projects, in the education of teachers and on projects aiming the integration of the climate system in school lessons. All of them generally support ESPERE, most of them are ready to give concrete advice, to co-operate and to offer teaching material for the pages.

Several organisations ESPERE should co-operate with are listed at

International cooperation

This board however is (only) a solution for German speaking countries but not for ESPERE in its international dimension. Therefore it is stressed explicitly again, that only members and supporters in the respective country can give comparable addresses and make comparable contacts in their country, because in most cases people should be contacted in the native language.

ESPERE logo

From an illustrator in Munich, there is a first proposal for an ESPERE logo available now. Please have a look at <<http://www.espere.net/logo.html>> and give your opinion, what you think about it.

Poster presentation

The first ESPERE poster ist going to be presented by Elmar Uherek at the conference "A changing atmosphere" in Torino 17-20 sept. Since there was not yet enough time for the development of a brochure, at least a leaflet - developed by Katja Mannschreck - will be available.

Progress in Greece and Poland

Positive news from our members Anita Bokwa in Poland and Maria Doufexopoulou in Greece. The links on the main page are leading to national websites now.

First school project

The first co-operation between ESPERE and a German comprehensive school is running. A description of the project is given at <<http://www.espere.net/Unitedkingdom/ukschoolprojectsuk.html>>. The first sites are already available, further help is urgently needed (because the term is already running) for the following fields:

- clouds (properties, formation, simple chemistry, impact on the radiation budget)

- glaciers and ice (long term records, impact on sea level raise, climate history from ice cores)

- oceans (heat capacity, influence on the global climate and in the climate history, termohaline circulation)

If you are able to write small articles about this field for pupils of about 14 years (either in English or in German), please contact Elmar Uherek.
