NEWSLETTER

February 2002 Nr. 2 - 22/02/02

by Heleen De Coninck
in behalf of the ESPERE Steering Committee

Hello everybody,

It's my turn to do the newsletter, and Elmar provided me with enough material. I'll try to keep it short, so you can read it carefully!

IGBP contacts

IGBP will discuss ESPERE and a possible co-operation this week. They like the idea of ESPERE, but are not sure how to implement a co-operation. More news in the next newsletter!

Status members, supporters, advisors

The status of the members, supporters and contact persons of ESPERE has been revised. Please check your data on
http://www.espere.net/mailinglist.html
and send corrections to Elmar Uherek

Regular Members

Up to now the only way to express the support of the idea of ESPERE is to sign a membership agreement and to become an official member. Note the difference between an membership agreement and being a supporter!

- The supporter only provides information about yourself, which should help to decide whom to ask for which tasks and fields of research.

- The membership agreement
http://www.espere.net/Administration/MA-form.pdf
includes your signature that you agree with the idea of ESPERE and that you are ready to support ESPERE with at least two hours per month. Membership includes more rights (election, access to password protected pages, etc.).

You're very much invited to sign up!

Water project - translation

The atmospheric part of the water project has been finished, revised and put up for teaching material in the German Internet platform for schools 'Lehrer-online'.
Translations of this pilot project are envisioned into English (any volunteers among you German translators or native English reviewers?), French, Italian, Dutch, Hungarian and Spanish.
Supporters and members, familiar with one of these languages and not yet busy with other tasks, are invited to contribute to the translation from English or German into their mother tongue.

EU meeting on proposal

Susanne Nawrath will attend an information meeting on the EU Raising Public Awareness programme on 4th March. More news about this in the following newsletter.

Steering Committee

Next Monday, the steering committee will have its first online meeting. Hopefully, a framework for a legal construction and a democratic organisation can be written after that. We'll keep you informed!

That's all for today, thanks for you attention and keep up the good work!

Heleen
