Status of ESPERE-ENC

From the current state of the negociations with the European Commission it is envisioned that ESPERE-ENC as first funded project of the ESPERE initiative will officially launch 01.01.2003. The financial support will not be sufficient to realise the formerly suggested volume of a Climate Encyclopaedia for schools. The amount of teaching units has to be reduced to 2-3 per thematic field instead of four. However we will provide the frame for an extension on the basis of voluntary contributions or further funding. The Agenda of ESPERE-ENC and the workplan will be published in the next Newsletter.

Future of ESPERE

ESPERE-ENC will be the first project of the ESPERE initiative. ESPERE as such, led by the Steering Committee, shall be established as an independent organisation with an own office likely at Krakow University. The Krakow group is currently working on the statutes. ESPERE should participate in and organise further projects and is not limited to Europe.

Contact to Schools

During the next months we will begin with the information of schools. The official way via the governmental institutions is not always the most successful one. We also search the contact to interested persons in the educational systems. Any hints, addresses, recommendations for this phase of contact-establishment are highly welcome.

Marie Monier (France, French speaking countries, Spain)

Elmar Uherek (Germany, Austria, Switzerland)

Martin Johnson (United Kingdom, English speaking countries)

Sebastian Wypych (Poland, Hungary, Eastern Europe)

Michael Gauss (Norway, Scandinavia)

Links

From now on likely until the launch of the new ESPERE-ENC website 01.01.2003, we invite you to submit any links (research institutes, governmental efforts, private initiatives, schools projects) dealing with the climate system and its parts or related issues to the ESPERE Link List, connected to the platform.
We can't avoid abuse if we don't want to restrict the access by a password. But the list will be updated and cleaned regularly.

With kind regards,

Anita Bokwa, Elmar Uherek
(in behalf of the ESPERE Steering Committee)

Sebastian Wypych, Pawel Jezioro
