Report ESPERE-ENC Kick-off meeting

The project ESPERE-ENC has been funded by the European Commission for the time span 01.01.2003 to 31.12.2004, i.e. for two years. During this time the ESPERE-ENC consortium will work on a climate encyclopaedia for the use in schools in seven languages. The ESPERE-ENC consortium has 11 partners in France, Germany, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Spain and United Kingdom.

In order to get an overview, who is involved in this project and how to contact the respective people, please open the following PDF-file:

The ESPERE-ENC Kick-off meeting took place 05.02.-07.02.2003 at Mainz. The consortium agreed on the basic structure of the future website and the topics which shall be explained. For an overview please open the following PDF-file:

New ESPERE-ENC Server

The new ESPERE-ENC server is running, although rather 'empty' at the moment. The work has begun with generating an overview of the thematic fields and teaching units. For a first example how the future pages could look like, please check:

http://imprs.hostsystem.de/enid/752

The new pages are not yet connected to the server www.espere.net, which remains the portal to all ESPERE pages. We disconnected for a while the front pages from all countries, which are not part of the ESPERE-ENC projects. Much of the information is outdated and we have to discuss with the voluntary supporters, how to go on, before connecting them again. Certainly the linklists are still accessible and this way indirectly also the national front pages.

EGU/AGU Nice 2003

ESPERE-ENC will be presented during the joint EGU/AGU assembly 06.-11. April 2003 at Nice. Several oral or poster presentations will be given:

Session ES1 - Geophysical Information for Teachers (GIFT)

Session ES2 - Educating geoscientists around the world (with 3-4 contributions from ESPERE)

Session CL6 - Anthropogenic climate changes: forcing, modelling, detection and impact

Finally we invite all colleagues, who are interested in the future of outreach work in climate science, who supported and still support ESPERE and who have been involved from the beginning to join the townhall meeting:

ESPERE - teaching the climate system

We will give an overview talk and have an open panel on the future of ESPERE, the founding of an association and outreach efforts in climate science.
