The school competition involves searching the web for information on climate issues. You can find a few examples for such information in our link list. You must then use this information to write a paper of between 5 to 10 pages in length which gives an overview of different parts of the climate system and their interactions. Include the web links you have used and comment on their contents and quality. Scientist call this a review paper. This is similar to a presentation that you might give in your school. Not everyone has time to read 10 pages so the final part of this competition is to summarise your written work as an overview poster. This is what many scientists do for meetings and conferences.
Prizes
The best contributions consisting of a list of the web links used (including comments on their content and quality), a paper and a poster will be presented on the ESPERE webpage. The winner can also present their work at the Joint Assembly of the European Geophysical Union (EGU) and the American Geosphysical Union (AGU) in Nice (7-11 April 2003). We will provide travel expenses for 2 people(one accompanying person) and will assist you with your presentation. EGU is the biggest European conference on climate and geosciences and is attended each ear by about 3000 scientists from the fields of astronomy, oceanography, atmospheric science and vulcanology.
