Welcome to the English School pages!
Dear Teacher or student
What is special about ESPERE?
How can ESPERE be useful for schools?
How can teachers and students contribute to ESPERE?
ESPERE is the initiative of an international group of scientists, who specialise in the fields of climate research and related environmental issues. They are committed to giving an understandable overview of these subjects to the wider public - including the newest trends and results. One important target group will be teachers and students.
What is special about ESPERE?
All of the members of ESPERE are scientists working in their respective research fields. They are employed by research institutes or universities and cooperate in international projects. They have access to topical data, they know colleagues from international conferences and they are in-touch world-wide via e-mail. So they are able to give the most topical information about their field and they are able to contact colleagues who are more knowledgable in other fields. Even the newest theories and data are accessible to ESPERE participants.
How can ESPERE be useful for schools?
The websites of ESPERE should become a kind of Web-Atlas for Climate and Environmental Science. On the following web page you will get an overview of possible subjects. The texts and illustrations will be developed to be clear, understandable and easily accessible - to act as teaching material in schools. The idea is not only that students should treat the site like an electronic text-book, but that they should be involved in the development of the website. If parts of the text are not clear, if sudden questions appear, that perhaps in some cases cannot be answered by the teacher, students are invited to write directly to the member of ESPERE who coordinates the relevant thematic field. The answer to the question and even the improvement of the website could be presented in the next lesson. .
How can schools contribute to ESPERE?
First, the interactive exchange of ideas will help to make the websites presented in the ESPERE network more user-friendly. This is an important contribution of the students. Whilst learning and using the site they will become advisors to the scientists and co-authors with them.
There are several other possible opportunities for students to be involved with the ESPERE project, both on the internet and in the classroom. From 2003 on cooperations of ESPERE and schools are funded by the European Union within the project ESPERE-ENC.
