I am senior scientist - what can I do?
The coordinators and members of ESPERE plan to establish an informative network which should have the comprehensibility of a light novel but the reliability of a scientific journal. This reliability shall be guaranteed in a way similar to the peer-review system used by scientific journals. Therefore we need your help as senior scientist and reviewers.
We will ask you for advice and material (such as graphs, pictures, data) for the development of the pages, if you would like to accompany this process for topics related to your field of research.
You could mediate and recommend other colleagues who could answer to specific questions.
And finally we ask you to forward the idea of ESPERE and to motivate PhD students, PostDocs and young scientists in your group to become active member of ESPERE to make the network grow.
If you agree to be asked now and then (it will not take too much of your time) for this purpose by the members of ESPERE, please copy the following questions to your mailbox, answer them and send the message to contact@espere.net

I would like to become member of ESPERE ...
What do I have to do?
This is very simple. Please write to mail@espere.net or - easier for us - directly to the administrator of your country (see below), tell us that you would like to become a member and ask for a SUPPORTER FORM.
Hello! That's us, Elmar and Michael, at the moment the main adminstrators of ESPERE.

In the future, it is planned to have local administrators for different countries. About the current state please have a look on the frequently updated overview in the 'Partners' section: Administration of ESPERE
Michael ( michaelg@geofysikk.uio.no ) cares about the following countries:
Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Russia, SouthEast Asia, Australia
Elmar ( uherek@mpch-mainz.mpg.de ) cares about:
Western Europe, Africa, North- and South-America, MidAsia
If you don't receive an answer from us within 5 days we may be abroad. In this case write to the current coordinator (mail@espere.net).

Concrete work - what is awaiting me?
We try to offer work packages that should take you between one to two hours in two weeks to complete. For the members who are not directly involved in administration this will be an upper limit. "We offer work packages" does not mean that your role in ESPERE is a passive one but you should decide what you would like to do. The work package system gives only an overview where help is needed.
Depending on your personal preference ...
It is possible to find solutions
so that you do something in five 15 min breaks over two weeks during your normal work
so that you invest one time a couple of hours and than you do nothing for the next six weeks
so that you do an easy job such as internet inquiry if you are stressed and tired
so that you think about layout, design etc. if you want to be creative
so that you care about certain websites related to your research and their contents if you are mostly interested in your field
so that you care about a totally different field if you want to learn something new
so that you make new contacts and write to other people if you like the communication part
You can decide whether you would like to care about the offered workpackages or propose something yourself. Or you can ask your coordinator what would be reasonable at the moment to his/her opinion.
The only thing that is really not reasonable is to agree with the idea, to announce your support and to do nothing concrete for months. It is not reasonable and it is not fair because you also discourage the other members.

I am a non-scientist - what can I do?
Generally it is possible for everybody who is interested to contribute to the ESPERE project. Webdesign, internet inquiry and optimization of the pages have not necessarily to be done by scientists. Comprehensibility even cannot be checked by scientists. So, there are lots of things you can do as a non-scientist to contribute to this project and you are invited to do this as a reader, if you have internet access or at least an e-mail address.

School pupil are invited!
It is one of the major goals of ESPERE to explain the problems that may arise from climate change and the interaction of environmental processes in general to the next generation. Therefore the ESPERE pages are also to be used as teaching material. But school pupil together with their teachers are invited not only to be on the passive side, but to participate in the development of the websites.
You are invited to review the pages with respect to comprehensibility, to make suggestions, how we can improve them and also to write your own contributions for the section "schools for ESPERE".

If you, pupil - teacher - shop assistant - lawyer, are interested to support the idea of ESPERE, please write to contact@espere.net.
Please let us know, that you are interested to participate as non-scientist and tell us about your special interests and capabilities. Please keep in mind: We do not pursue political or commercial goals. Our interest is to inform about climate change and environmental processes and to offer a basis for everybody's personal decision, what to do.
