[introduction 2001 - meanwhile part of the 'history' of ESPERE]
Who are we?
We are an international group of young scientists (lots of us PhD students or young PhD's) who work in atmospheric, environmental and climate research. The founding group met at a month-long course (European Research Course on Atmospheres: ERCA), which took place in Jan/Feb 2000 in Grenoble.
We maintain email and internet contact between lots of countries all over the world.
The Homepage Project ESPERE: Environmental Science Published for Everybody Round the Earth is also the project 'Hope', as 'espere' is French for hope.
We aim to manage not only to bring together nations over the net but also to connect the environmental scientists with whom we work all over the world with the citizens of our homelands.
Our message is particularly addressed to the younger generation, who will grow up in a time of increasing global climate change. Therefore we would also like to work together with school pupils (together with their teachers) and ask them to take part in the project.
An ideal picture of who's taking part in Project ESPERE is this:
Experts inform people about relevant topics of environmental science .
We as the initiating group create and mediate a homepage.
School pupils and teachers help with this.
Members of the public can inform themselves and others.
